P&J Holiday Club – 26th to 30th July 2010

Starship Discovery landed in Kings Road at the beginning of the school holidays and led some of our children on a journey “up there, out of this world.” About fifty children passed through the spaceship (the transformed church hall) averaging at about thirty per day and they spent their time singing, listening, creating and playing. Andreas led a team of volunteers who shared their skills in order to create a varied and interesting programme which included craft work, dancing, musical exploration and sports. He led the teaching with a particular focus on Peter and his journey of faith. Suzie the friendly alien took shape over the first few days and can now be seen in the narthex of the church along with some of her other alien companions. For me, one of the highlights was to see the girls (because the boys chose to play football outside) create a dancing spectacle of a revolving planet surrounded by revolving rings. The children seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly and the team worked well together in order to keep the momentum going. At the end of the week Andreas was heard to say that he’s be happy to run another holiday club, “but only one a year … I am finished!”
